Sweat Equity

Each Habitat Home Buyer in our Home Buyer Program completes a minimum of 200 hours of sweat equity per adult  prior to purchasing and moving into their Habitat home.

Sweat equity is the volunteer time invested by Home Buyers in building their own and other Habitat houses, volunteering in the ReStore, attending monthly Home Buyer meetings, working and attending at Habitat events and volunteering with other community organizations.  Sweat equity increases the personal stake of each family member in the home, fosters partnership with Habitat and is a key principle of Habitat in building partnerships across economic, racial and national divisions.
