The Problem

Thousands of families in Horry County are living in substandard housing -- having to deal with overcrowding, forced to pay over half their income for housing, and / or live in houses with severe physical deficiencies.

Our Mission

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere - from all walks of life - to develop communities with God's people in need by building simply, decent, affordable houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which God's people can live and grow into all that God intended.

What Habitat is Doing to Help

Habitat for Humanity of Horry County builds simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with those in need. The homes are then sold to those partners at no profit and with a no-interest mortgage. Habitat does NOT give houses away. Volunteers provide most of the labor and individual, church, and corporate donors provide funding and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of sweat equity - building their own homes and homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving fund for Habitat and is used to build more houses in our community.

Locally, since 1991, Habitat for Humanity of Horry County has built over 90 homes with partner families. We currently have 40 families that have applied and been approved for our program and more than 900 families waiting for the next home application opportunity.
