Collegiate Challenge Volunteers
The Collegiate Challenge is an alternative way to spend your next
spring break from college! Participants ages 18-25 take a week and travel
to a local affiliate to help with construction, outreach,
administrative duties, or development. If you would like to
take your college group to the Myrtle Beach area, use the links
below to learn more information from the Habitat for Humanity
International site and register your group. Myrtle Beach is
located along The Grand Strand in South Carolina, an area made
famous as a warm-climate beach destination and home to the
largest number of golf courses at the beach in the United
States. As of 2011 the affiliate has constructed 108 homes for
low-income families throughout the county, which also happens to
be the largest county in the state. Visit the
Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge page to learn more
information and register your group. Facts About Collegiate
Challenge
- The program is available for anyone 18 years old to 25.
- A group needs to have at least five participants, but does
not necessarily need to be a club, organization, or campus
chapter. Anyone can band together to form their own group and
learn from this great experience.
- A program fee is applied for all participants. This fee
varies from around $100-250 per participant. These fees are
used by the affiliate to pay for construction materials during
the week they will be participating.
- Groups are responsible for their own transportation to the
local affiliate and while they are visiting. If a group flies,
they will also need to rent transportation for the week.
- While some local restaurants will provide discounts and
deals, each group should plan on providing their own food.
- Local affiliates will assist with finding housing at a
community center, local church, or private residence during
the time spent with the affiliate.
- A weekly schedule includes a five day work week from
approximately 8AM to 2PM each day. While arrangements may be
made on some evenings to have dinner at restaurants or a
Habitat partner family, you can also expect to have a few
evenings free to use as you see fit.
